About Cathryn

Juniper Play Therapy was founded by Play Therapist and teacher Cathryn Hicks.

Cathryn trained to be a teacher and qualified in 2003. Initially, she worked in Primary Education, but has spent the last ten years teaching children with Special Educational Needs. Cathryn has worked with children with Autism, ADHD and complex medical needs.

Whilst working as a teacher, Cathryn realised that many children were misunderstood and were only 'seen' for their behaviour or academic ability. When in fact the children were confused, anxious or angry and unable to articulate this verbally to the adults around them. She wanted to support these children and so decided to train to be a Play Therapist.

Cathryn trained to be a Play Therapist at the University of South Wales and qualified with an MSc Play Therapy in September 2019 and is registered with the British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT).

Cathryn is a passionate about working with and supporting children through difficult and upsetting life experiences. She is committed to enabling children to become happier and more settled versions of themselves through the power of play.
